Rafa Sardina is a world-renowned music producer and engineer with over 25 years of experience in the industry. A 19-time Grammy and Latin Grammy Award winner, he has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Alejandro Sanz, and Plácido Domingo. Today, he leads Abbey Road Institute Los Angeles as its CEO, shaping the next generation of music professionals.

Born in Gernika, Basque Country, Spain, Sardina began his journey as a musician before transitioning into production and engineering. Moving to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, he quickly built a reputation as one of the most sought-after professionals in the industry. His work has earned multiple Grammy Awards, including four for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, showcasing his unmatched expertise in creating sonic masterpieces that enhance an artist’s vision.

Leadership & Influence in the Music Industry

Beyond the studio, Sardina is a key leader in the music industry. He currently serves as Governor for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Grammy Awards and previously held positions such as Chairman of the Producers & Engineers Wing at the Recording Academy (2016), Trustee of the Latin Grammys, and Vice-Chairman & Founding Member of CPI (Círculo de Productores e Ingenieros)—the premier organization for producers and engineers in Latin America, Brazil, Spain, and Portugal.

Executive Producer & Advocate for Music Education

Sardina played a pivotal role in the Latin Grammy’s Person of the Year gala/show in 2017 and 2018, serving as Executive Producer and Music Producer for tributes honoring Alejandro Sanz and Maná. Passionate about music education, he regularly speaks at conferences and workshops, sharing his knowledge with aspiring musicians, producers, and engineers.

John Boylan

John Boylan – Legendary Music Producer, Songwriter & Educator

John Boylan is a renowned music producer, musician, songwriter, publisher, and A&R executive whose influence spans decades. With a career shaping rock, country, and children’s music, he has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry while also contributing to music education. Today, he is a faculty member at Abbey Road Institute Los Angeles, mentoring the next generation of music professionals.

 

A Career Rooted in Musical Excellence

Raised in New York City, Boylan’s passion for music emerged early. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bard College, initially pursuing acting before transitioning into a music career. His big break came in the late 1960s when his songwriting caught the attention of Rick Nelson, leading to a production role on Nelson’s album Another Side of Rick. This pivotal collaboration launched Boylan’s career as a producer, during which he formed the Stone Canyon Band for Nelson, featuring future Eagles member Randy Meisner.

Boylan’s talent for assembling iconic musicians continued when he managed Linda Ronstadt, introducing her to the musicians who would later form the Eagles, one of the most successful bands in history.

 

Producing Iconic Albums & Multi-Platinum Success

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Boylan’s production work expanded to include Little River Band, Charlie Daniels, and Mickey Gilley. His most notable achievement came in 1976, when he co-produced Boston’s self-titled debut album, a record-breaking success with over 17 million copies sold in the U.S., making it one of the best-selling debut albums in history.

 

Innovation in Children’s Music & Grammy Recognition

Beyond rock and country, Boylan made significant contributions to children’s music, producing albums for The Simpsons, The Chipmunks, and The Muppets. His work on Elmopalooza, a Sesame Workshop project, earned a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album, further cementing his versatility as a producer.

Music Education & Mentorship

In 1990, Boylan transitioned into music education, teaching at UCLA Extension before joining Citrus College in 2005. His courses in songwriting, critical listening for sound engineers, and music industry careers provided students with invaluable real-world insights. Today, he continues to share his expertise through guest lectures at Citrus College and as a faculty member at Abbey Road Institute Los Angeles.

Vanessa Garde

Film & TV Composer, Orchestrator, and Technology Expert

Vanessa Garde is an award-winning film and TV composer, arranger, orchestrator, and music producer, specializing in music technology, 5.1 mixing, and orchestral conducting. She has collaborated with major Hollywood productions, renowned artists, and prestigious educational institutions worldwide.

Vanessa has contributed to blockbuster films such as:

  • Exodus (directed by Ridley Scott, starring Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton)
  • The Girl in the Spider’s Web (Millennium series, starring Claire Foy)

Vanessa was an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music (Valencia Campus) for over five years, helping develop the Scoring for Film, TV, and Video Games Master’s Program. She also teaches at institutions like ESMUC, Centro Katarina Gurska, Música Creativa, and Fundación SGAE, shaping the next generation of composers and music producers.

Barry Rudolph

Renowned Music Producer, Mixing Engineer & Technical Writer

Barry Rudolph is an acclaimed music producer, recording and mixing engineer, and technical writer, known for his work with some of the biggest names in the music industry. His extensive discography includes The Beach Boys, Rod Stewart, and Rick Rubin, among many others.

A Career Spanning Decades of Hit Records

While attending university, Barry worked full-time as a digital electronics technician for NASA-contracted aerospace and computer companies in Southern California. After earning his AA and Bachelor of Science degrees, he spent three years as a staff assistant engineer at Larrabee Sound in West Hollywood before going freelance. His career took off after engineering his first number-one hit record, which went gold in 1972. Since then, Barry has contributed to over 30 RIAA-certified gold and platinum records and has worked on three Grammy-winning projects.

Barry has engineered and mixed for legendary artists across multiple genres, including Al Wilson, Rod Stewart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hall & Oates, Sonny & Cher, Waylon Jennings, Mick Jagger, Robbie Nevil, Selena, Jon Bon Jovi, Keith Moon, The Beach Boys, and Ringo Starr.

He has also collaborated with iconic producers such as Tom Dowd, Steve Cropper, Jerry Fuller, Christopher Bond, Oliver Leiber, David Gamson, Neil Giraldo, Rick Rubin, Stanley Clarke, Josquin Des Pres, and Don Cornelius.
